Parametric Wall Interior Design

Echoing the Simonsberg: A Parametric Wall Design

We at Modo Architects are thrilled to announce our latest venture into the innovative world of parametric design, and what better way to kick it off than with a bespoke project for the renowned Niel Ellis Wine Farm. We wanted to design a unique wall feature for their new wine-tasting restaurant, and the result is a parametric wall that marries technology, nature, and craftsmanship.

The Simonsberg Mountain Parametric Wall

The design for this wall is more than just a decorative element; it's a narrative piece that connects the interior space with its breathtaking surroundings. The core of the design is a simplistic wave that emanates from the restaurant's fireplace, expanding as it moves outward. This flowing form creates a sense of dynamism and movement, drawing the eye and guiding the viewer through the space.

The true complexity and contextual relevance, however, lie in the subtle incorporation of the Simonsberg mountain silhouette. We've integrated a 45-degree offset angle into the outline of the mountain, which is visible on the wall's face. This serves as a direct reference to the natural landscape outside the building, creating a visual dialogue between the built environment and the majestic scenery of the Simonsberg mountains.

The Manufacturing Process: Precision and Partnership

The wall is composed of individual panels, which are being precisely cut and shaped by a CNC machine. We've partnered with the expert team at Arctech to handle the manufacturing process, ensuring an unparalleled level of accuracy and consistency. Each panel fits perfectly into the overall design, thanks to their craftsmanship. The evenly spaced panels contribute to the wall's rhythmic and elegant appearance, while also highlighting the precision of the manufacturing process.

We believe that this project for Niel Ellis Wine Farm showcases the immense potential of parametric design to create spaces that are not only beautiful but also deeply meaningful. Stay tuned for Part 2 of this blog, where we'll share images of the final installation and the completed wall in all its glory. Cheers to new beginnings and a design that truly stands out!
